If your rug is being stored for more than 3 months then there are a few things you need to do in order to protect your rug. You first need to have your rug properly cleaned and sprayed with an anti-moth insecticide. It must then be wrapped in protective plastic or a tough synthetic paper like building material wrapping. Don’t use newspapers or brown wrapping paper. These materials are not chemically stable and are often quite acidic. They won’t provide the protection from insects or moisture that is required for your rug.

Make sure your rug is completely dry before rolling and think carefully about using mothballs or flakes. These products are not moth-repellent and the odour can be quite difficult to remove especially if the rug has been rolled for months. Cedar scent is also useless for moth control. Store your rug in a cool dry place where rodents can’t get to it. If possible inspect your rug periodically for wear or damage. Have your rug cleaned only when it is really dirty or if you envisage this is going to be a problem in the future why not consider a washable rug which is easier to clean.

If you see something wrong with your rug that you don’t have the ability to rectify it, don’t hesitate to call a reputable Rug Dealer for advice. With just a small amount of care your rug will provide many years of usefulness and pride in ownership.Rug care advice
