With the introduction of Polypropylene and modern manufacturing methods has meant that imitations of some of the most expensive materials now look and feel like the real thing.  Viscose rugs are a great replacement for silk offering the same feel and appearance but at a fraction of the price. Flat weave polypropylene is also a very realistic alternative to jute rugs and there are very many other alternatives available particularly online.  It is worth looking at some of these alternatives when searching for a rug.
