It has been revealed that border guards in Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport in Montreal discovered nearly $4million worth of Heroin on the 30th July this year. The discovery was made while the Canada Borders Services Agency (CBSA) was carrying out a routine inspection of a rug shipment from Pakistan. Nearly 11 kilograms of heroin was found hidden within the hand-knotted wool fibres.

According to Quebec Region Director General Bernard Brie “This seizure was the result of the diligent work of CBSA officers whose expertise in examination and investigation techniques led them to identify indicators of concealment.” These expertise include specialist training in methods of drug concealment although one officer did admit that they had not before come across drugs actually sown into the fibres of a rug.

According to the CBSA the agency has carried out more than 2000 illegal drug seizures recovering drugs with an estimated street value of $680 million. The agency works closely with domestic and international law enforcement agents to try and prevent the smuggling of illegal drugs which assists organised crime and threatens the safety of Canadian citizens.

So far no one has been arrested but the investigation is continuing.
